PROFESSOR JOHN E. BONINE John E. Bonine holds the B.B. Kliks Endowed Chair in Law at the University of Oregon in the USA. He is Director of the LL.M. Program in Environmental and Natural Resources Law in Oregon and President of Environment-People-Law in Ukraine. Professor Bonine worked in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 1972-1977. At the University of Oregon:
Professor Bonine helped negotiate the Aarhus Public Participation Convention and helped design its compliance mechanism. He remains active particularly on the issue of equal access to justice. Professor Bonine co-authored the casebook The Law of Environmental Protection in 1984 and 1992 and (with the late Dr. Svitlana Kravchenko) Human Rights and the Environment in 2008. A new edition is expected in 2014. His current academic research involves barriers to access to justice in environmental matters in countries around the world. His most recent articles are The Divergent Paths of Environmental Law Practice (2010) and (with Dr. Kravchenko) Interpretation of Human Rights for the Protection of the Environment in the European Court of Human Rights (2012). At the University of Oregon, in 2011 Professor Bonine received the Award for University Leadership and Service. He has traveled to 91 countries and 49 of the U.S.’s 50 states. He is at home in both international negotiating rooms and remote wildernesses. |
