ISMO PÖLÖNEN

PhD, Docent of environmental law; works as a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Law, University of Eastern Finland. He has focused in his previous research on EU and Finnish law on environmental impact assessment, public participation rights, natural resource law and environmental liability issues.

Pölönen has published 15 peer-reviewed articles and two monographs and nine other scientific publications on these themes. The publications represent legal dogmatic, comparative, multidisciplinary and empirical research approaches and orientations. Besides academic merits he has a wide practical experience in the field of environmental impact assessment. He has been worked as a legal expert for the Finnish Ministry of Environment in several EIA related cases (including preparation of seven expert reports supporting law drafting and application of EIA legislation). Furthermore, Pölönen has been an expert member (Environmental Law) of the Finnish Association for Impact Assessment (FAIA) since 2004.
